HISTORY
James H. Bassett, Inc. is an Ohio Professional corporation doing business as Bassett Associates. The Office is located just east of Lima, Ohio, along the banks of the Ottawa River. James H. Bassett founded the company as an individual practice of landscape architecture in 1954. The firm was incorporated in 1970, and today includes six registered landscape architects and a support staff of designers, assistants and CAD operators. Bassett Associates has established a widespread reputation for award winning design excellence in a diverse array of projects.

James H. Bassett, FASLA, President
James H. Bassett is a graduate in Landscape Architecture of Ohio State University where he received a 1st Award - American Academy of Rome Design Competition and the ASLA Certificate of Merit. Other awards include the House & Home Design for Outdoor Living Achievement and the Texnikoi Outstanding Alumnus Award for the OSU College of Engineering. Under his leadership, Bassett Associates has been the recipient of twenty-eight state and national awards for design excellence.
Mr. Bassett is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects, and was elected to the Council of Fellows in 1981. He holds Certificate #17 from the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration boards and currently holds active registration in ten states. His positions within the profession have included membership on the Ohio State Board of Landscape Architects Examiners, the ASLA Accreditation Board and member and Director of the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards Region II. He served as a member of the Capitol Square Renovation Community Assistance Team, and in 1993, received the Ohio Chapter Medal in recognition of his achievements in and contributions to the profession of Landscape Architecture. In addition, he has served in numerous local civic leadership capacities and is currently a member of the Bluffton University Board of Directors.
Over the past thirty-two years Jim Bassett has expanded the horizons of landscape architecture with his ground breakingwork in the planning and design of zoological facilities. Growing from consultations on numerous zoos in small communities, Mr. Bassett is now recognized as one of the leading zoological designers in the country, bringing his sensitive perceptions of site design and the relationship of plants, people and space to the unique challenges of zoo design.
David E. Bassett, Secretary
Dave Bassett is cum laude graduate of Ohio State University in Landscape Architecture and has been with the Bassett firm since 1972. He is experienced in project management, and serves as head of design and contract document production for a broad range of project types with emphasis in the area of zoological design. He is a registered landscape architect in Ohio and Pennsylvania as well as a member of CLARB. He became a principal of Bassett Associates in 1993.
Dave very often serves as the manager of construction document production for major projects. Several of these include: Kansas City Zoo, Kansas City, MO; AmeriFlora Lakes & Cascades, Columbus, OH; Bryn Du Woods Housing Community, Granville, OH; Missouri Department of Conservation Urban Discovery Center, Kansas City, MO; James Dicke Hall and Performing Arts Center for Ohio Northern University, Ada, OH; Longaberger Corporate Headquarters, Newark, OH; St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima, OH.
Patrick J. Beam, ASLA, Treasurer
Pat Beam joined Bassett Associates in 1976 after graduating from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture. He is currently registered in the state of Ohio and became a principal of the Bassett firm in 1993.
Pat has extensive experience in all aspects of project management, design and production. His recent work has focused on park and recreation planning, housing / open space developments, retail / entertainment complexes, and a medical services campus. Several of the notable recent projects include: Longaberger Homestead, Frazeysburg, Ohio; Longaberger Golf Club Entrance & Clubhouse development, Newark, OH; Lima Memorial Hospital Diagnostic Center and Cancer Institute, Lima, OH; Campden Lakes Development, Columbus, OH; numerous Hancock County, Ohio Park District projects; Ottawa River Multi-use Trail System, Lima, OH; St; Elizabeth Hospital & Hospice of the Valley, Boardman, OH; Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH; University of Northwestern Ohio , Lima, OH.
